MPLS LABEL
The label is imposed between the
data link layer (Layer 2) header and network layer (Layer 3) header. The top of
the label stack appears first in the packet, and the bottom appears last. The
network layer packetimmediately follows the last label in the label stack.
- Bottom most label will be mpls vpn label, and top label will be
for the Provider Edge egress side of routers
An Ethernet header is modified to indicate
the presence of an MPLS label.
• 0x8847 – indicates a labeled unicast IP packet
• 0x8848 – indicates a labeled multicast IP packet
• 0x0800 – indicates an unlabeled unicast IP packet
